{VIDEO}Top 10 Tips For My Emergency Preparedness List

70 Hours without power sure is a great teacher! Here are my top 10 tips for preparing your home for power outages.

  1. Land line phone so I don’t rely on my cell phone being charged
  2. AM FM radio hand crank or battery
  3. 100 waterBOB Emergency Drinking Water Storage bag to fill in tub
  4. Emergency phone list so I don’t rely on my cell phone
  5. Propane stove top with propane canisters
  6. Portable DVD player, rechargeable
  7. Battery powered book lamp/head lamp
  8. Cash in smaller denominations for grocery store or gas station
  9. 115 hour candle/liquid paraffin
  10. Battery operated lantern/crank 1 minute for 1 hour of light (SolaDyne at Fred Meyers, hand crank and solar powered)

Of course there are several ways to prepare and this is my suggested list for 2015.

If you’ve never experienced 70 hours without power, you could always challenge your family and go 48 hours without power and see how well you do. This list will be a lot more compelling and urgent once you’ve experienced brushing your teeth by candle light.
